While navigating through the nuances of his formative years, Travis “Thi’sl” Tyler was forced to weave through the tapestry of trials that followed him through the streets of St. Louis. In order to propel himself on the right path, he had to face his fears, fight his dragons, and focus on his future to transform himself into someone he’s never encountered before—A God-fearing Giant among men.
At 14, Travis was pulled from the only parent he has ever known and ordered into the care of the state of Missouri. This would set forth a chain of events that forever challenged his outlook on life. By 15, he witnessed the undefeated streets claim the life of one of his closest comrades. This life-altering event was the prelude to the pivotal decision to drop out of high school at 16. By the time he reached 22, he was falsely accused of murder—a charge that threatened to keep him captive for the rest of his life.
It was during these dark days when Travis unlocked an epiphany. Instead of continuing to participate in the problems that plagued his community, he deepened his desire to be a proactive part of society’s solutions. Travis's transformation became a tale of tenacity as he committed himself to create healthy habits to strengthen the mightiest sword he has in his arsenal—his mind. At 23, he began reading more and allowing wisdom of the Bible to become his guiding light, leading him to the completion of his GED by age 26. By 27, he had already begun making his mark in society through the utilization of talent, time, and resources to positively impact people from the community he calls home.
With philanthropy as the cornerstone of Travis's mission, he collaborated with the Bubba Watson Foundation to contribute $25,000 to Griffith Elementary for computer infrastructure, helping close the digital divide. His commitment to making a positive impact is evident in his annual Christmas toy drive, studio build-out for inner-city youth, and mentoring over 180 men re-entering from prison.
As the Executive Director of the Flight 100 Foundation, Travis currently leads a Youth and Leadership program, embodying his dedication to fostering positive change. With over two decades of experience mentoring youth and men re-entering society, Travis has also played a crucial role in creating curriculum through partnerships with churches, non-profits, and outreach organizations, once again proving that compassion connects communities.
Whether through a powerful speaking engagement or a performed song, Travis’s compelling story and powerful message has resonated across diverse settings. From corporate engagements to group homes, juvenile detention centers, jails, camps, schools, festivals, churches, and boys and girls clubs nationwide, his impactful message allows the audience to introspectively assess themselves as they work through the various levels of life.
As a thought leader, opportunities as a master orator introduced him to an international audience in Australia (Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney) and the United Kingdom (London); he left with a global community in which he remains closely connected.
